Tips and Tools
Effective Resume Writing Writing a good resume
may be the most important step in your job search process. Think of
your resume as a first impression. You only have one chance to come
across favorably before the person reading it decides to file it away
with the rest or calls you for that interview. Your resume should
highlight experiences that are relevant to the position you wish to
fill. To maximize your chances for an interview, your resume should
capture a person’s attention within 30 seconds. Here are some
additional tips on writing an effective resume:
- Verbage
- Use only past-tense verbs even when writing about your current job.
This creates consistency throughout your resume.
- Quantify
- Quantify your accomplishments. Employers are looking for
results-oriented employees who save time and reduce costs. Only include
job duties on your resume if you can follow them up with the result
that was produced.
- Specify - Be as specific as possible. Use words that describe the size and qualities of your projects.
- Length
- Do not exceed two pages in length. One page is preferable but if you
have a lot of experience, two pages is acceptable.
- Proofread
- Have someone proofread your resume before you send it. In addition to
using Spell check, it’s always good to have a second pair of eyes read
your resume over.

Question & Answer
If you have any questions about using our website, feel free to contact us by email and we may share your question in an upcoming issue!
Q. I want to delete my profile. I am fully employed. Please tell me how. Thank you.
A.
There's no need to delete your information from our website. You never
know when you might find yourself back in the job market. The good news
is that once you find a job, you can make your resume inactive so that
employers cannot find your information in search results. From the
candidate homepage, turn Resume Searchable to off. Next time you are
looking for a job, you can update your information and then turn it
back on. It's that easy!
